Julian Liknaitzky

BA(Psych) LL.B Hdip.Tax

I have worked as a divorce mediator in Ontario Canada for more than 10 years, and have come to understand marriage, relationships, and divorce in a unique way. A marriage cannot end without consideration of the common threads between each person. During a marriage the shared experiences of the relationship are like badges sewn onto a tapestry.

These badges are the patchwork of the relationship and represent the most important elements continuing to tie the couple together. It is my job as a divorce mediator to aid in removing all the badges without ripping them off. There may be certain joint badges that will remain, like children, but my goal as a divorce mediator is to make this process seamless and easy on everyone.

Growing up in South Africa, Julian began his career as a lawyer, before pursuing his path as a divorce mediator. Graduating from University of the Witwatersrand, (Wits) in South Africa, he completed his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, specializing in Family Therapy and Individual Counseling. Completing his Law degree (L.L.B.) and Higher Diploma in Tax (Hdip. Tax), Julian practised law in South Africa before immigrating to Canada.

After experiencing his own divorce and seeing the benefits of mediation first hand, Julian decided to become a divorce mediator in the hopes he could help others through the divorce process. He then completed the Family Mediation and Advanced Family Mediation program through Conrad Grebel University College, University of Waterloo, Ontario, along with a special 2 day program on Domestic Violence. Studying under Dr. Barbara Fidler and Linda Chodos, Julian completed a program in the Foundations of Parenting Coordination in 2008. And again in 2009 he completed the Advanced Parenting Coordination program.

In addition to being a divorce mediator, Julian has been retained as a motivational speaker, giving a number of motivational speeches in Canada, South Africa, and Switzerland. His talks including: “Why does it always happen to me?”, “Finding Yourself in Life,” and “ Negotiating a Pathway.” In addition Julian has been invited to present on joint discussion panels, working collaborative with lawyers to present talks on divorce related topics. These talks include: “The Instinct Guru’s “and the “Divorce Course,” detailing how a divorce coach is involved in the emotional aspects of divorce.
